Objective

The course work is a compulsory part of the professional bachelor's study program "Public Health" of the Faculty of Public Health and Social Welfare of Riga Stradins University. The course work is developed and defended in the 2nd study year. The course work is a written independent study of the scientific literature on the chosen topic in public health.
The aim of the course is to develop the skills of reviewing and presenting the literature in accordance with the research question and the analysis of the scientific literature.

Basics of research methodology, public health and epidemiology

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Name the main components of the research work.
Find major scientific data source search databases.
Define the main ethical principles of scientific writing.

Skills

Find and select the necessary scientific data sources according to the research question.
Identify and indicate in the text the relevant data sources accordingly.
Use paraphrasing to prevent plagiarism.
To develop the research work in accordance with the formatting guidelines.
To present research work in the academic environment.

Competence

Synthesize the separate scientific findings in a literature review accordingly with the research question.
Use an appropriate scientific writing style.
Defend research work in accordance with academic requirements.
