Objective

To provide students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the provision of emergency medical assistance in life-threatening situations, developing the ability to rapidly assess the patient’s condition, prioritise and take appropriate emergency medical treatment measures prior to inpatient placement.

Prerequisites

Students need previously acquired theoretical knowledge, practical skills and professional competences in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, first aid delivery, electrocardiography basics and the application of professional technical skills to successfully acquire the study course “Emergency Medicine”.The student in the knowunderstands the basic principles of the structure and function of the human body, especially the functioning of the cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous, endocrine and support-motion system. The student is familiar with the physiological parameters of vital functions and the body’s compensatory responses in hypoxia, shock, trauma, bleeding, pain and other acute abnormal conditions. The student is familiar with basic pharmacology principles, including pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics, drug indications, contraindications, side effects, interactions, and safe administration conditions. The skillStudent is able to perform initial evaluation of the patient using a structured approach such as the ABCDE algorithm. The student is able to assess airway permeability, respiratory efficiency, circulation, level of consciousness, skin color, temperature, pain intensity and other clinically relevant parameters. The student is able to register an ECG record, recognise normal sinus rhythm and identify obvious life-threatening rhythm abnormalities that require immediate further evaluation or urgent action. The competencestudent is able to integrate knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, first aid, ECG and professional technical skills into initial assessment of the patient’s condition and recognition of urgent conditions. The student is able to make initial, situational decisions based on the patient’s clinical condition, vital signs and observable symptoms.
