Objective

To ensure the acquisition and development of theoretical knowledge and practical skills related to the basic issues of geriatrics.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.• Aging process, changes in the human body in tissues, organs, physiological functions, homeostasis. Theories of Aging. Psychological aging, social aging. Demographic aspects.
• Aging-related changes in disease epidemiology, incidence, disease manifestations. Changes in drug pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics.
• Comprehensive comprehensive assessment of the health status of elderly people, including anamnesis, physical examination. • Knowledge of geriatric syndromes (instability, falls, incontinence, cognitive disorders, dementia).

Skills

1.• Evaluates the patient's state of health, taking into account the clinical situation (collection of anamnesis, physical examination, analysis of previous laboratory and instrumental data).
• When assessing the functional status of older patients, the use of functional status assessment tools. Completes "Daily Basic Activities Scale", "Daily Instrumental Activities Scale", gait and balance assessment test.
• Uses tools to determine cognitive function by completing the MMSE test, the "Clock Test".

Competence

1.Formulation of diagnosis. Characteristics of geriatric problems - syndromes in medical records. Draws up a treatment and care plan for patients, taking into account medical indications (careful clinical assessment, functional status, guidelines). Formulates and explains health-related problems to the patient, or in some cases to the patient's relatives.
