Objective

To provide theoretical knowledge and practical skills to assess the need and indications for microvascular operative therapy, to provide emergency assistance to victims of traumatic limb injuries, subtotal and total traumatic amputations.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.The student has acquired and extended knowledge of:
a) indications, possibilities, types and consequences of microvascular surgery,
b) the basic requirements of hand surgery,
c) the latest treatment options for hand tissue injuries.

Skills

1.The student will be able to:
a) provide emergency care to victims with sub-total or total traumatic amputation and prepare, transport for microsurgery,
b) perform surgical wound dressing of hand trauma,
c) apply tendon suture, finger nerve suture,
d) perform adequate osteosynthesis of the bone.

Competence

1.Student will be able to:
a) assess the severity of hand injury,
b) describe and justify the principles of action for hand injuries of different severity,
c) be able to explain treatment options and objectives for the patient’s injury in a reasonable manner,
d) describe the rehabilitation options and draw up a rehabilitation plan for each specific case.
