Objective

The overall objective of this course is to provide the students with advanced knowledge on Health Economics and how it is related to the planning and provision of Health Care Services. Due to the scarcity of resources an efficient use of resources is crucial, especially to ensure universal access to Health Care Services. In addition to basic definitions advanced concepts of Health Economics applied to stimulate the efficiency of Health Care Services will be provided.

Basic knowledge of health economics and health care organization

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.Upon successful completion of the course the students will:
- be familiar with the theories of Health Economics and efficiency in health care
- get the basic foundations of Health Economics and the relevance for Health Care Services
- be able to recognize and use the potential of techniques and tools which might help to improve Health Care Services
- know the basic elements of Process Management
- know the basic elements of Personnel calculation methods
- be able to understand Health Care System behavior and how to react on system changes

Skills

1.The students will be able to:
- use economic concepts in the analysis of Health Care Services
- understand possible areas of implementation of Process-Management, Personnel calculation in Health Care Services;
- understand the economics of Health Care Institutions and how specified tools might help to solve problems in Health Economics and Health Management;
- analyze situations and recognize problems regarding Health Management and justify if and how techniques from Process-Management, Health Care Service Delivery might be useful to overcome these obstacles
- apply Health Economics tools and “hands on” exercises related to increase of efficiency in Health Sector

Competence

1.Students will be able to:
- increase efficiency in Health Care Service planning and provision
- identify and solve problems in Health Care provision using innovative tools
- provide decision making support in Health Care sector
