Objective

To train rheumatology residents to understand the mechanisms of the cellular and humoral immune systems, their role and significance in the etiology, pathogenesis, and clinical course of rheumatic diseases. To provide knowledge of the diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to autoimmune diseases, the mechanisms of immunotherapy, including basic and advanced (biologic and targeted) therapies, their effects on the immune system, and the fundamental principles of immunotherapy in rheumatology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.The resident demonstrates advanced and comprehensive knowledge of the etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal and autoimmune connective tissue diseases. This knowledge provides a foundation for creative clinical thinking, research, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The resident: understands the cellular and humoral immune systems of joint and connective tissues; comprehends the mechanisms of these systems and their roles in the etiology, pathogenesis, and clinical expression of rheumatic diseases; knows autoimmune and infectious diseases of the joints, connective tissues, and blood vessels; is familiar with laboratory immunologic methods for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of rheumatic diseases; understands the principles of immunotherapy in rheumatology, including SMART therapy, immunomodulators, and the mechanisms of biologic and targeted drugs on the immune system, pathogenesis, and clinical manifestations of disease.

Skills

1.The resident: understands the nature of immunologic problems, diagnostic algorithms, and is capable of providing specialized professional care; applies diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive measures in practice; can explain and discuss complex or systemic aspects of rheumatology with both specialists and non-specialists; accurately maintains medical documentation in outpatient and inpatient settings; independently develops professional competencies and assumes responsibility for clinical results and their evaluation; is capable of purposefully ordering and interpretin; immunologic laboratory tests for patients with rheumatic diseases; uses innovative approaches in both clinical and research practice.

Competence

1.The resident: practices independently and responsibly at a high professional level, performing diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention of musculoskeletal and autoimmune diseases; plans and develops professional competence, assumes responsibility for team performance, and contributes to innovation; makes evidence-based and scientifically reasoned clinical decisions regarding both individual patient and public health, and documents them appropriately; applies knowledge and skills to diagnose, perform differential diagnosis, interpret test data, and design structured treatment and rehabilitation plans; defines treatment goals logically, evaluates therapeutic effectiveness and adverse effects; interprets immunologic laboratory results and incorporates them into comprehensive treatment planning.
