Objective

To improve theoretical knowledge and practical skills in neurosurgery, in line with the latest scientific developments, in order to independently diagnose traumatic damage to and diseases of the nervous system and to provide, if necessary, skilled emergency care.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.Student is able to:
a) name and describe the types, course, treatment methods, possible complications and consequences of CNS and peripheral nervous system injuries,
b) identify and explain the need for neurosurgical operations, assessing the indications in each case.

Skills

1.The student will be able to:
a) investigate patients with CNS, peripheral nervous system injuries and diseases,
b) diagnose CNS, peripheral system injuries and diseases,
c) plan and prescribe additional investigative methods necessary to clarify the diagnosis and interpret them,
d) justify the choice of surgical or conservative treatment,
e) provide emergency medical care,
f) perform an epidural puncture,
g) suture a damaged peripheral nerve.

Competence

1.The student is able to:
a) formulate and justify a diagnosis,
b) perform differential diagnosis in cases of injury and disease,
c) interpret the obtained patient examination data and draw up an appropriate treatment and rehabilitation plan.
