Objective

To provide knowledge about the most common manipulations in relation to orthodontics: tooth extraction, soft tissue manipulations and placement of different implants.
To develop and strengthen skills for simple tooth extractions and placement of cortical microimplants.
To create competence in integrated orthodontic surgical treatment of patients having maxillofacial deformations.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.Knowledge about embedded tooth extraction and exposure techniques.
Knowledge about skeletal support devices, specifics of their placement
Knowledge about the role of an oral surgeon in replacement of teeth: dental implants, autotransplantation.
To know about interdisciplinary treatment approaches in correction of craniofacial and dentoalveolar deformations.
Knowledge about 2D and 3D treatment planning.
Indications and applications of different types of orthognathic procedures.
To know about surgical treatment possibilities of TMJ pathologies.

Skills

1.To know how to perform simple tooth extractions for orthodontic purposes.
To know how to place cortical microimplants.
To be able to perform complete examination of patients with craniofacial and dentofacial deformations, incl. for planning of orthognathic surgeries.

Competence

1.Will be able to make a complete diagnosis of embedded teeth and to decide on a proper treatment approach.
Will be able to prepare the dental arch for placement of implants.
Will be competent to integrate skeletal support devices in a mechanotherapy plan, when needed.
Will understand tasks of orthodontic preparations before orthognathic surgeries.
Will be competent to perform orthodontic treatment of a patient, whose treatment includes an orthognathic surgery.
