Objective

To ensure acquisition and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in obtaining donor organs from living donors according to the requirements of the transplantology speciality regulation to prepare the doctor for certification in transplantologist’s speciality according to laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.During the time allocated for rotation discipline, the medical resident acquires basic knowledge and competence in preoperative examination of the living donor, preparation for explantation, explantation of living donor organs, postoperative treatment of the donor, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of possible complications.

Skills

1.As a result of completing the rotation discipline, the medical resident will be able to prepare living donors for organ (kidney) explantation, organ (kidney) explantation from living donors, post-operative treatment and observation of the donor.

Competence

1.To select living kidney donors, prepare for the kidney retrieval surgery, perform the kidney retrieval surgery, prepare the retrieved kidney for transplantation, manage the donor’s treatment and post-operative observation, document and register the donation in accordance with the law.
