About Study Course
Objective
Obtain comprehensive knowledge and experience in palliative care and the management of terminal care of patients treated for a gynaecological cancer.
Learning outcomes
1.Role of palliative care service in patients treated for cancer. The principles of palliative care, ethics and psychological aspects.
1.Understanding the role of palliative care of patients treated for a gynaecological cancer. Competence in breaking bad news. Symptoms of advanced cancer stages. Causes and types of pain. Types of pain reduction therapy and their effectiveness. Suitable choice of analgesic therapy. Knowledge of pain and accessible care services. Pathophysiology of nausea and vomiting. Treatment options of nausea and vomiting in cancer patients. Knowledge of fear, anxiety and depression. Structured and supportive communication with patient and their relatives. Pathophysiology and treatment of oedema. Understanding the role of palliative care providers in hospital, possible options for inpatients and outpatients palliative care.
Effective and empathic communication skills. Recognise when the therapy should be changed. Recognising symptoms and treating them accordingly.
Ability to recognise anxiety, depression and psycho-sexual problems and involve the relevant professionals to patient care. Working in collaboration with palliative care providers in palliative care unit as well as in patients home. Care of terminally ill patients.
1.Knowledge of indications for palliative care and treatment principles. Ordinating symptomatic therapy for patients with gynaecological and breast malignancies and delivering recommendations according to symptomatic therapy for primary health care physicians, medication prescribing principles for outpatient care. Analysing results of treatment and difficulties in multi disciplinary team meeting accordingly to evidence based literature.
