About Study Course
Objective
To ensure the acquisition and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in pathology and laboratory genetics, in accordance with the requirements of the specialty of pathologists, in order to prepare the doctor for certification in the specialty of urologist, in accordance with the regulatory documents of the Republic of Latvia.
Learning outcomes
1.• know the histological types of prostate tumors, their correlation with the prognosis, grading principles according to Gleason, pTNM stage.
• histological types of bladder tumors, their correlation with prognosis, grading principles, flat urothelial lesions, pTNM stages.
• histological types of kidney tumors, their correlation with prognosis, grading principles, tumor cytogenetics, morphological aspects of target therapy, pTNM stages.
• histological types of testicular tumors, their correlation with prognosis, grading, pTNM stages.
• Non-oncological diseases in urology and their morphology.
1.Can:
• microscope the histological preparations of kidneys, prostate, testicles, ureter.
• Be able to distinguish neoplastically changed tissues from benign tissues and their more common forms
• Primary treatment of surgical material: preparation of prostate and kidney tumor for laboratory treatment.
1.• detailed theoretical knowledge about the etiology, pathogenesis, morphology of more common acute urological diseases.
• Methods used in pathology, insight into immunohistochemistry, molecular pathology, cytogenetics, histochemistry.
• Rules for the preparation of the research material for sending to the pathology laboratory.
• Principles of primary processing of surgery and biopsy material.
