About Study Course
Objective
To give knowledge about epidemiology, aetiology, pathogenesis, clinical features, diagnostics and course (according to ICD-10) of mental and behavioural disorders; to give knowledge about emergency case management in psychiatry; basic principles of prophylaxis, pharmacological treatment, social rehabilitation and role of psycho therapeutic treatment of mental and behavioural disorders in primary care; to give knowledge about organization and practical work of metal health care; to give knowledge about ethical and legal principles in psychiatry; and distributions of competence between different physicians when it comes to planning and organizing health care of mentally ill patients. To teach skills and to develop competencies in psychiatry according to requirements for speciality of a physician. To develop empathetic attitude towards patients and their family members, to reflect on and to improve their own attitudes towards mental health problems.

• Anatomy, physiology, pathological physiology and anatomy; • Developmental and medical psychology; • Ethics in medicine; • Epidemiology; • Public health; • Medical genetics; • Basic principles of clinical care; • Basics of Neurology; • Radiological investigation of central nervous system; • Basics psychopharmacology; • Basics of psychotherapy.
Learning outcomes
1.Show and systematize knowledge about epidemiology, aetiology, pathogenesis, clinical features, diagnostics and course (according to ICD-10) of mental and behavioural disorders; knowledge about emergency case management in psychiatry; basic principles of prophylaxis, pharmacological treatment, social rehabilitation and role of psychotherapeutic treatment of mental and behavioural disorders in primary care.
1.Skills to perform full psychiatric evaluation, recognize, evaluate and to describe core symptoms of mental and behavioural disorders when working in general clinical practice; to differentiate normal and pathological reactions in every-day life situations, to evaluate the possibility of self-harm; to perform an interview, showing empathy, and to comprehend importance of therapeutic relationships in psychiatry; to report the clinical case to other doctors and medical professionals; to evaluate and plan the clinical care patient would need; to evaluate the influence family environment has on the patient; to realize the importance of multidisciplinary team and to show skills to work in it.
1.Planning and recommending assistance to the organisation, operation and ethical and legal principles of the psychiatric care service; the division of competences between different specialists; competence in the planning, organisation and evaluation of treatment outcomes for psychiatric patients.
