Objective

To create an opportunity to acquire basic knowledge of the main basic principles of psychological counselling and their specific character regarding different groups of clients, to develop counselling skills with clients/patients using various interventions/methods.

Prerequisites

General Psychology, Professional Ethics, Developmental Psychology, Basic Psychological Research, Clinical Psychology, Personality Psychology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.Students describe the differences of psychological counselling and psychotherapy, describe the principles for creating counselling relationship with clients and compare their peculiarities with different client/patient groups, describe and explain the stages of the individual counselling process, identify counselling interventions, and describe the counselling environment.

Skills

1.Students reflect on their skills and experience, are able to provide feedback to their peers about their skills. Express empathic attitude towards the client (student). Able to direct their further learning independently and able to work with their fellow students to achieve a common goal.

Competence

1.Students use counselling micro-skills according to the context of the situation, are able to establish counselling relationships with the client; conclude an agreement. Recognise used counselling skills in their own and others' work.
