Objective

The aim of the course is to provide knowledge and understanding of basic issues of modern public health and epidemiology, as well as to develop scientific, critical, systematic and analytical thinking of students in order to select the subject of their qualification paper and apply the acquired knowledge in its development.

Prerequisites

Successfully completed study courses Information literacy, Public health care and prevention in dentistry I and Research paper in dentistry.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.As a result of the study course, students acquire basic knowledge in the guidelines and strategy of public health and epidemiology and in the organisation of the healthcare system. The acquired knowledge will be able to be applied in the development of qualification papers.

Skills

1.Students will be able to:
• apply concepts, terms of public health;
• use concepts, terms of epidemiology;
• apply appropriate knowledge to patient education;
• choose the best health prevention recommendation for the patient;
• apply all acquired skills to the development of qualification papers.

Competence

1.As a result of the study course, students are able to apply the practically acquired knowledge in patient care, are able to formulate definitions, concepts of public health, are able to develop preventive recommendations for patients and logically formulate and explain the importance of epidemiology, are able to use the acquired competences in the development of qualification papers.
