Objective

The aim of the study course is to provide theoretical and practical knowledge of the basic principles of sports medicine and the monitoring of the health of athletes during the exercise process. Promote understanding of functional changes in the human body during exercise and the effects of physical activity on different systems of the body. Develop skills in evaluation of physical development, physical fitness and physical fitness using testing methods applied in sports medicine and sports practice. To develop an understanding of the importance of athletes’ medical examinations, identification of health risks during exercise and principles of doping control in sport, as well as to develop the ability to analyse and interpret the resulting test results in the planning of sports classes and the training process, ensuring safe exercise.

Prerequisites

Students need basic knowledge of the structure and functions of the human body, especially the functioning of the muscles, cardiovascular and respiratory system. Understanding of the impact of physical exercise on the body, basic principles of physical fitness and physical development, as well as basic skills to analyse physical activity and movement performance are necessary.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.Explain the tasks of sports medicine, the principles of health care and medical supervision of athletes, the importance of medical examinations and the principles of the collection of the athlete’s history in accordance with Cabinet Regulation No 594, as well as the basic principles of anti-doping regulations in sport.

Skills

1.The athlete’s family, life and sports history is collected and analyzed, identifying potential health risk factors.

Competence

1.Evaluate the health information of the athlete and formulate conclusions on the safety and fitness of sporting activities.
