Objective

To improve and develop clinically practical skills in therapeutic dentistry, to promote the ability to make decisions on the treatment of caries and other pathologie of hard dental tissue, treatment of dental pulp pathologies, treatment of apical and marginal periodontal diseases, prevention individually for the patient and the population. To evaluate the correlations in the diagnosis of caries and pathologies of hard dental tissues, dental pulp and periodontal diseases, in the choice of treatment methods and to be able to apply them in clinical practice. Improve clinical skills in a real work environment - in a dental clinic outside the RSU.

Prerequisites

Internal diseases, Biomaterial study course, Preclinic in operative dentistry, endodontics and Periodontology, Retngenology, Cariology, periodontology, Endodontics. immunology, Ethics.
In order to apply for the study course, the student must make an agreement with the dental clinic where he is going to undergo this practice. It can be clinic out of RSU in any country of EU/EEZ.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

After successful completion of the study course the student will be able to:
- to describe the structure, functions, pathology of hard dental tisseus;
- to define the role of local and general factors - interactions of microorganisms, carbohydrates, tooth and saliva, fluorides, nutrition, socio-economic factors in the origin of caries and pathologies of hard dental tisseus;
-to classify the clinical manifestations of caries and pathologies of hard dental tisseus;
- to describe the etiology and pathogenesis of periodontal diseases;
- describe the classification of periodontal diseases and identify the types of periodontal diseases;
to formulate the stages of planned treatment of periodontal diseases and their sequence;
- to describe pulp and periodontal pathologies;
- formulate indications for referral of a patient to a specialist in endodontics or periodontology.

Skills

After successful completion of the study course the student will be able to:
- to choose an appropriate method and materials for the treatment of caries and pathologies of hard dental tisseus, pulp and periodontal pathologie, taking into account the indications and contraindications;
- to assess t caries activity and caries risk;
- assess the quality of existing restorations and the need for it's replacing;
- to perform a periodontal examination of the patient;
- evaluate the prognosis of individual teeth and the occlusion;
- to diagnose and perform emergency treatment in case of acute conditions of periodontal disease;
- use non-surgical (conventional) periodontal treatment methods;
- will be able to apply specific diagnostic tests in the diagnosis of pulp and periapical tissue pathologies, perform X-rays in endodontics;
- to perform pulp treatment for vital and devital single-rooted and multi-rooted teeth with uncomplicated anatomy;
- provide emergency assistance in acute cases;
- develop a treatment plan that integrates treatment into the overall oral treatment plan;
- to evaluate the results and prognosis of the treatment, the expected possible complications, to develop the prevention of possible complications and, if necessary, to change the treatment plan.

Competence

After successful completion of the study course, the student will be able to: assess the interrelationships and integrate the knowledge of other fields of medicine and dentistry in the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of caries, other pathologies of hard dental tisseus, pulp and periodontal pathologies.
