Objective

The objective of the study course is to allow the medical residents to acquire and improve in-depth theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the specialty of surgery and thoracic surgery to the extent that would be necessary for independent work and certification of anaesthesiologist, reanimatologist, in accordance with laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.Able to demonstrate in-depth and extensive knowledge and understanding of medical theories on surgery and thoracic surgery, which meets the requirements of the specialty of anaesthesiologist, reanimatologist, which provides a basis for creative thinking in clinical practice and partly in research, as well as the ability to work in interdisciplinary interactions.

Independently formulates and critically analyses complex clinical medical problems in surgery and thoracic surgery, critically evaluates research in surgery and thoracic surgery; performs additional analysis as necessary to substantiate decisions; integrates knowledge from different fields of medicine; summarises experience.

Skills

1.Medical residents are able to formulate and analyse complex clinical problems in surgery and thoracic surgery; critically evaluate clinical studies and research in surgery and thoracic surgery; perform further analysis and explain one’s decision; integrate knowledge into different disciplines and summarise experience.

1.Able to apply medical problem-solving skills in surgery and thoracic surgery to perform the professional functions of an anaesthesiologist, reanimatologist.
