Objective

To ensure the acquisition of thoracic radiology for successful further implementation of studies in accordance with the requirements of the regulations of the radiology specialty in order to prepare the doctor for certification in the specialty of radiologist, in accordance with the regulatory documents of the Republic of Latvia.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.• To name, explain and radiologically evaluate the normal anatomy and congenital variants of the respiratory system, cardiovascular system, mediastinum and thoracic wall organs.
• To recognise, formulate and briefly describe the radiological signs of interstitial lung diseases, focal changes, chronic inflammatory and obstructive diseases, radiological differential diagnostic methods.
• To explain and radiologically expand the pleural spaces, describe normal variants and radiological signs of pathology.
• To recognize and radiologically evaluate extrathoracic and pleural tubes, medical implants, stimulators, stents, vascular implants.
• To name and sequentially arrange thoracic radiographic and CT radiation doses and ways of reducing them.

Skills

1.• To recognise, describe and evaluate normal and abnormal thoracic radiographs and descriptions under the supervision of a certified physician.
• To demonstrate, interpret and explain ultrasonography of the pleural space under the supervision of a certified physician.

Competence

1.• To evaluate, justify and describe normal variants of the respiratory system, cardiovascular system, mediastinum and thoracic wall with conventional radiology methods.
• To compare and evaluate the radiological features of interstitial lung diseases, focal changes, chronic inflammatory and obstructive diseases on thoracic radiographs.
• To differentiate, evaluate and measure abnormal contents in the pleural space on thoracic radiographs and by ultrasonography.
• To recognise, evaluate and justify the position of extrathoracic and pleural tubes, medical implants, stimulators, stents, vascular implants on thoracic radiographs.
