About Study Course
Objective
To ensure acquisition and improvement of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in thoracic surgery in order to prepare a physician for certification in thoracic surgeon’s specialty in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Republic of Latvia.
Learning outcomes
1.Ability to demonstrate thorough knowledge and understanding of the latest thoracic surgery findings, as well as interaction of different fields of surgery.
Knowledge of pulmonary, pleural, bronchial system, esophagus and chest wall anatomy, pathophysiology, diagnostic methods, set of instruments used in thoracic surgery; competence in selection of surgical tactics in acute cases; knowledge of provision of emergency assistance upon necessity, understanding of the indications for surgical treatment and postoperative care specifics.
1.Ability to use theory, as well as methods and problem solving skills independently in order to individually perform research activity and a highly qualified and professional thoracic surgeon’s functions.
Ability to perform correct assessment of patient’s general condition; examine a patient adequately; ability to perform pleural space puncture and pleural space drainage.
1.Ability to individually formulate and critically analyse complicated scientific and professional problems, substantiate decisions, as well as make additional analysis upon necessity.
Ability to integrate knowledge of different fields, contribute to the formation of new knowledge, development of research or professional activity methods, demonstrate understanding and ethical responsibility for the potential impact of a thoracic surgeon’s activity.
Ability to explain and discuss complicated or systemic thoracic surgery aspects both; with specialists and non-specialists.
Ability to independently advance improvement of one’s competence and specialisation, assume responsibility for work results of one’s staff and undergo analysis thereof.
