Objective

Provide the theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the placement of transjugular portosystemic shunts for patients with portal hypertension using interventional radiology techniques for the sub-speciality of interventional radiology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.By the end of this course, residents will be familiar with the pathogenesis of chronic liver disease, its clinical manifestations, and minimally invasive treatment options. Radiological diagnosis of liver disease pathology (CT, MR, DSA, MRA, CTA, US). Integration of patient clinical outcomes into the generally accepted classification (Child-Pugh, Meld scales). Residents are familiar with the indications and contraindications of transjugular porto systemic shunts. Importance of direct and indirect portocaval pressure gradient and technical possibilities of measurement. Technologies used in endovascular treatment (stents, stent prostheses). Theoretical foundations of TIPS creation. Indications for drug therapy and the most important drugs used. Knows the complications of the procedure and how to prevent them.
