Preliminary Knowledge:
Knowledge of the English language. Without preliminary knowledge of the Latvian.
Objective:
To acquire basics of Latvian in order to be able to communicate at basic level A1 (according to Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Assessment
Unaided Work:
Individual work – mastering of the vocabulary of the corresponding topic, work with a dictionary. In order to evaluate the quality of the study course as a whole, the student must fill out the study course evaluation questionnaire on the Student Portal.
Assessment Criteria:
Presentation "Me and my family" (40%). Written test, which includes a multiple choice test to check grammar and vocabulary of the course content (60%).

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:Upon successful completion of the course, students will know: • the lexical minimum of conversational themes; • the simplest language rules; • the principles of question formation, including question words.
Skills:Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to: • comprehend simple necessary information; • give information about oneself, family, studies, daily routine orally and in writing; • ask simple questions and to answer them.
Competencies:Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to use Latvian language at basic level in daily communication.
