We invite you to take part in a discussion about working in the United Nations Security Council on 15 December, 12:00–13:00, at the RSU Faculty of Social Sciences, 9C Kuldīgas iela, Room A-217.
During the event, representatives from the Foreign Ministries of Denmark and Latvia will share their experience and perspectives on the priorities of both countries in the UN Security Council, as well as on the cooperation that will begin on 1 January 2026, when both states will be serving as Council members.
Ms. Louise Riis Andersen, from the UN team at Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will speak about Denmark’s ongoing work in the Security Council, as the country approaches the halfway point of its term. Mr. Renārs Danelsons, from Latvia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will outline Latvia’s priorities and expectations as it prepares for its upcoming two-year term in the Council. Opening remarks will be delivered by Morten Jespersen, Ambassador of Denmark to Latvia.
The event provides a unique opportunity to learn more about day-to-day work and decision-making processes in New York at a significant moment for Denmark, Latvia, and the UN.
Are you curious about how the Security Council actually operates? How negotiations unfold and what challenges arise during informal consultations? How Denmark and Latvia contribute?
Event moderator: Dr. Sandis Šrāders, Lecturer at RSU Faculty of Social Sciences.
