Inspiration Park
Inspiration Park is a 1.3 ha green space between the RSU Main Building and the student hostel on Dārza street, designed to prioritise pedestrian access, safety, and comfort. With a grand oak tree at its heart, the park is a cherished and freely accessible recreational area for students, employees, and the wider public alike.
In the 19th century, the site was part of the Zengbuši Manor, and for many years local residents enjoyed the meadow around the oak tree as a place of rest and leisure.
Following major landscaping works between 2017 and 2019, and with an RSU investment of more than EUR 218,000, the park acquired 567 m2 of illuminated pedestrian walkways, a 9.3 m footbridge, a campfire site, and an outdoor auditorium that is transformed into a stage when needed.
Today, the park is home to a variety of university events: from the matriculation and graduation ceremonies to festive Midsummer celebrations. It also serves the wider community, with local government-organised activities, such as qigong classes, taking place on its grounds.
Development of the Inspiration Park remains an ongoing priority. In 2022, four Kanzan sakura trees were planted through a joint initiative of the Student Union’s “Project Green” and the RSU Infrastructure Department. Likewise, since 2024, the park’s roses and lime trees have served a dual purpose, not only delighting visitors but also providing a vital source of nectar for the bees that inhabit the rooftop of the Pharmaceutical Education and Research Centre. Further landscaping works are planned in the coming years, including the development of additional walkways to improve pedestrian mobility between the university buildings surrounding the park.
