Cooperation

Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) has received a donation of EUR 25,000 from the Children’s Hospital Foundation. This support is an important step in a targeted collaboration that allows science improve children’s healthcare. The donation is based on a collaboration agreement signed on 12 January by RSU Rector Prof. Aigars Pētersons and the foundation’s Executive Director Vineta Vilistere-Lāce. The agreement confirms the commitment of both partners to provide increasingly effective support for young patients and their families.

The donation will be used to implement and validate drug screening methods at the RSU laboratory, as well as to screen tumour tissue cultures from children with oncological diseases.

The project intends to analyse tumour material obtained from approximately 20 patients up to the age of 18 to determine tissue-specific sensitivity to medications. The number of patients may vary depending on the actual number of clinical cases during the project.

This approach will provide significant support in clinical decision-making and for selecting the most appropriate therapy for each patient individually.

The project is intended as a scientific study that strengthens RSU‘s capacity as a research university and promotes the development of personalised medicine in Latvia. Its implementation is planned to be completed by 31 December of this year.

The cooperation between the Children’s Hospital Foundation and RSU is based on the principles of good partnership and a shared goal to foster innovative solutions in children’s healthcare and improve treatment opportunities for young patients.
