Consolidation in focus: Insights from the RSU IT Department
Half a year has already passed since 1 July 2024 when Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) and the Latvian Academy of Sport Education (LASE) started on their joint path of development, creating a unified health and sport science ecosystem that will ensure high-quality, internationally competitive, research-based higher education and good governance.
Behind these words lies a lot of practical work in the form of time, effort and expertise put in the staff, so that RSU and LASE can work together as cohesively as possible. We asked representatives from different departments to tell us about their achievements, and we will publish these stories on a weekly basis.
The RSU IT Department has put in a lot of work in the consolidation process - the digital processes of LASE have now been integrated with RSU, and our new colleagues from LASE are being trained to use the systems that support both the administrative and study processes at RSU. Jānis Laizāns, Head of the IT Service Centre, tells us about his work.
The main achievement of the consolidation process has been to ensure that RSU LASE students and staff have access to the same digital study and work environment as the rest of the RSU community, which would not have been possible without the efforts of the Human Resources Department, the Academic Affairs Department and other colleagues.
We have started the new year with a feeling of a job well done - we can say that most of the work in taking over and organising the RSU LASE IT systems has been completed. Until December last year, we provided face-to-face consultations in the RSU LASE building at 333 Brīvības gatve. LASE e-mail accounts were closed at the end of December and all communication is now only done via the RSU e-mail system. We are currently in the process of purchasing and distributing computer equipment to users at RSU LASE. We also continue providing individual counselling to staff from RSU LASE and training on the Grow portal about the use of various IT tools. As IT technologies are constantly evolving, RSU follows the latest trends and implements them in the daily work of the University. We then offer training on IT systems to absolutely all RSU colleagues.
Information has been gathered on the RSU LASE’s existing websites and portals, and work has begun on integrating these systems into the RSU infrastructure.
We have equipped 13 classrooms in the RSU LASE building with multimedia equipment and are continuing to improve the technical environment. Building A is fully equipped with RSU’s wireless internet network.
Since the end of December last year, the RSU LASE e-study system has been closed, and the study process is organised uniformly for all RSU study programmes. RSU LASE student files have been taken over, successfully integrated into the RSU system and students have access to all e-services. We are currently working on transfering RSU LASE student evaluations.
