From 16 to 20 February, the EUSA Student Powerlifting Cup took place in France, in the Bordeaux suburb of Mérignac. RSU Sports Club was represented by six athletes – three women and three men.

The first to compete on the 18th were Latvian sisters Ania and Enia Antanoviča in the 63 kg weight category. With total results of 335 kg and 355 kg respectively, they placed 14th and 13th. Viktors Poluhins competed in the 83 kg weight category, finishing in 13th place and achieving personal records in the squat and bench press. For the sisters as well as for Viktors, this was their debut at an international student competition.

On the 19th, last year’s participant Anna Ozola and first timer Hugo Prauliņš competed. Anna had an outstanding performance – 9 out of 9 successful lifts, a total of 395 kg, three Latvian student records and four personal records in the 76 kg weight category, earning an impressive 7th place. Congratulations to Anna!

Hugo also delivered a strong performance, achieving a 632.5 kg total, securing 9th place, and setting a personal record in bench press.

The highlight

Competing for the first time at the EUSA European Student Cup, Alberts-Aleksandrs Šķila claimed 3rd place in the squat (292.5 kg), 2nd place in the bench press (187.5 kg), and 1st place in the deadlift (307.5 kg) in the 120 kg weight category.

With an impressive total of 787.5 kg, he was crowned EUSA European Student Champion.

Alberts also broke the Latvian student squat record previously held by the decorated Reinis Ratnieks.
