The Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Convent of Councillors held its regular meeting at the RSU Medical Education Technology Centre (METC) on Tuesday, 1 November. The meeting was opened by Professor Ludmila Vīksna, Chair of the Convent of Councillors.

During the meeting, the RSU Rector, Professor Aigars Pētersons, gave an overview of the University’s activities from 2018 to 2022, spoke about the challenges that the University has faced, and listed achievements in studies, research, finance, infrastructure, international development, and other fields. Prof. Pētersons also presented the University’s development strategy for 2022-2027.

At the meeting, the Convent of Councillors was represented by Professor Sandra Kaija, a Supreme Court Judge, Valts Ābols, Chair of the Board of the Children's Clinical University Hospital, Professor Ivars Kalviņš, Chair of the Scientific Board of the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis, Juris Lācis, Chair of the Board of the North Kurzeme Regional Hospital, Māris Rēvalds, Chair of the Board of Veselības centrs 4 Health Centre, entrepreneur Aigars Rostovskis, an Honorary Doctor of RSU, and Dins Šmits, Chair of the RSU Alumni Association. 

Later in the day, the representatives took a tour of the newly opened simulated surgical unit to see where students upgrade their medical skills, led by METC Director Ieva Šlēzina. The new surgical unit is among the most modern medical training facilities for prospective and current medical practitioners of its kind in Europe.

The RSU Convent of Councillors is a consultative body composed of professionals from various fields, who devote their time to give an external opinion on the university's strategic plans. Being approved as a member of the Convent of Councillors is considered a great honour.
