Every year, D'Annunzio University of Chieti-Pescara in Italy hosts the finals of an international aesthetic dental restoration competition, the Jules Allemand Trophy, which brings together the most talented students from around the world. Latvia has participated in this competition since 2016 under the supervision of Dr Darja Ķīse, lecturer at the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Department of Conservative Dentistry and Oral Health.

Students from the RSU Faculty of Dentistry have been preparing for the event as part of the Aesthetics in Direct Aesthetic Dental Restoration study course since the previous academic year. Having the competition as a goal gives increases students’ motivation to learn and improve their practical skills. After a rigorous selection process, 5th-year student Dita Keiša and her lecturer Dr. Ķīse were selected to represent the University in the XIX Jules Allemand Trophy finals. Keiša ended up winning firs place against stiff competition from the best students from 19 countries. Keiša’s prize is a two-month-long internship under the supervision of world-renowned lecturers at the D'Annunzio University of Chieti-Pescara, Italy.

Dr Ķīse: ‘I am really proud of this result. It proves that we are able to compete with other universities and it is a chance to represent RSU in the world with our heads held high. We are overwhelmed and grateful that our hard work has paid off in such a beautiful victory!’
