Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) is increasingly integrating artificial intelligence (AI) solutions into the study process through a special support initiative for teaching staff aimed at enhancing study courses, fostering innovation, and strengthening academic capacity in the field of AI. The initiative’s closing event will take place on 8 May at 10:00 at the RSU Pharmaceutical Education and Research Centre (21 Konsula iela), where lecturers will present their project results and share their experiences.

In 2025, 16 AI pilot projects from five faculties were approved, where lectures, both working individually and in teams, developed and implemented new approaches to the study process. The projects cover a wide range of solutions, from AI assistants to support students to the development of digital patients for medical studies.

‘Artificial intelligence is already becoming an integral part of the RSU study courses - we are introducing AI assistants that provide students with continuous, 24/7 support.

They help students not only navigate course content and understand assignments, but also make learning more flexible, interactive, and highly personalised for every student,’ emphasises Linda Alksne, Head of the AI and Data Sciences Study Field.

As part of the initiative, existing study courses are also being redesigned, using AI tools to update and structure lecture content, automate the generation of tests, and enhance the visual quality of teaching materials. At the same time, in collaboration among several RSU structural units, interactive digital patients with real clinical profiles are being developed, allowing students to advance their communication, diagnosis, and treatment planning skills in a safe environment.

Lecturers are also actively developing AI-based teaching assistants that help students structure their thinking, analyse situations, and understand the consequences of their decisions.

‘Artificial intelligence is not used as a generator of ready-made answers, but rather as a tool that promotes deeper understanding and helps produce higher-quality study work,’ emphasises Linda Alksne.

RSU is purposefully continuing the integration of AI into the study process by developing new study opportunities. The university has launched Latvia’s first master’s programme in Digital Strategy and Artificial Intelligence Management, and the micro-credential programme Artificial Intelligence Management. This strengthens the RSU position as a modern university, oriented on future skills.
