This meeting was part of a broader series of discussions in which the RSU LASE leadership has met with representatives of various sports federations and associations in order to establish concrete cooperation plans. The main areas of collaboration include internship opportunities for students in specialised programmes, new directions and topics for bachelor’s theses, the implementation of joint projects, and student involvement in referee training. This would allow students to officiate children’s and youth competitions already during their studies.

During the conversation with Toms Markss,

practical cooperation opportunities were discussed.

‘It was truly encouraging that Markss had prepared thoroughly in advance and came with specific proposals for collaboration. Both he and his family members have studied at the academy,’ highlighted Assoc. Prof. Inese Ļubinska, Head of the RSU LASE Sport study field.

‘We are very interested in involving new, highly qualified lecturers in the delivery of practical study courses, and Markss had already prepared a list of potential candidates.

A constructive dialogue developed about involving our students in the organisation and supporting competitions at various levels.

This confirms our vision of reviewing and improving the internship content within the Senior Sports Coach qualification. The Secretary General raised an interesting idea regarding possible bachelor’s thesis directions and topic proposals,’ she added.

The meeting was attended by RSU LASE Director Diāna Laipniece, Head of the RSU LASE Sport study field Inese Ļubinska, Head of the Department of Individual and Team Sports Renārs Līcis, sports expert Kārlis Lejnieks, who actively contributes to RSU initiatives in sports education and research, as well as the Secretary General of the Latvian Cycling Federation, Toms Markss.
