The newly-built Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Pharmaceutical Education and Research Centre at 21 Konsula iela (next to the RSU Main Building) has won second place in the New Public Building category of the 2022 annual Latvian Construction Awards.

The grand opening of new Pharmaceutical Education and Research Centre will take place on 31 March 2023.

The new multi-storey building has a total area of 7,151 m² and received funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). It will house the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, the Department of Pharmacology, and the Department of Applied Pharmacy. The building will also feature study rooms and laboratories for students, as well as the Laboratory of Finished Dosage Forms, which is essential for the development of research.

This year, 123 applications were submitted across 10 categories for the Latvian Construction Award. Architecture, restoration, landscaping, and civil engineering projects that were commissioned in the previous year from different regions of Latvia were eligible for the awards.

The object is being constructed with the support of the project Pharmacy research infrastructure development at Rīga Stradiņš University (Agreement No. ), co-funded as part of the Specific Aid Objective (SAM) "Development of the R&D infrastructure in fields of smart specialisation and strengthening of institutional capacity of scientific institutions" and the project Improvement of the study environment at Rīga Stradiņš University (Agreement No., co-funded within SAM 8.1.1 "To increase the number of study programmes of modernised STEM, including medicine and creative industries”.
