On Thursday, 19 November the Minister of Health Ilze Viņķele presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Professor Ģirts Briģis. The Professor was congratulated by RSU Rector Prof. Aigars Pētersons, the Vice-Rector for Health Studies Guntis Bahs and Prof. Inga Millere, Dean of the Faculty of Public Health and Social Welfare. 

Prof. Ģirts Briģis, who is the Head of the RSU Department of Public Health and Epidemiology, received this recognition due to his contribution to public health promotion, research and training young professionals.

Prof. Briģis has been working at RSU for more than 30 years and has been the Head of the RSU Department of Public Health and Epidemiology since 1992.

Prof. Briģis is the research leader of several internationally significant studies, has established public health and epidemiology procedures and drawn up manuals. Prof. Briģis has developed several study courses in public health, epidemiology and health care organisation. He is the leader and a member of several local and international professional organisations.

During the COVID-19 outbreak this spring, Prof. Ģirts Briģis was actively involved in informing the public giving interviews to the media, explaining the epidemiological safety measures to the general public and helping to organise practical help within the health care system.
