RSU Research Data Repository Receives Internationally Recognised CoreTrustSeal Certification

Rīga Stradiņš University’s (RSU) institutional research data repository, RSU Dataverse, has received the internationally recognised CoreTrustSeal certification and has become a certified trustworthy digital repository. The certification confirms that RSU Dataverse meets high international standards for research data management, preservation, accessibility and security.

CoreTrustSeal is one of the world’s most widely used quality certifications for research data repositories. It is awarded by an international non-profit organisation, assessing a repository’s compliance with 16 mandatory requirements in the areas of organisational infrastructure, digital object management and technology. The certification process includes self-assessment, independent expert review and several stages of improvement. The certificate is valid for three years.

Obtaining the certification means that datasets deposited by RSU researchers will henceforth be stored in a certified trustworthy repository. This is a significant benefit both for researchers and for the university as a whole, as it helps meet the growing requirements of funders and scientific publishers for depositing data in trustworthy repositories.

The CoreTrustSeal certification strengthens RSU’s position in open science and research data management at the national and European levels. It also demonstrates the university’s contribution to the Nordic-Baltic research data management cooperation project Nordic-Baltic Dataverse Hub, through which RSU develops trustworthy research data management solutions that meet international standards.

Certified repositories are included in internationally recognised lists of trustworthy repositories referred to by funders, scientific publishers and research infrastructures. CoreTrustSeal is also one of the reference criteria in the trusted services framework of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).

RSU Dataverse is the university’s institutional research data repository, which has stored data generated in RSU research projects and other scientific activities since 2019. It provides long-term storage, DOI assignment, various access levels and high-quality metadata, as well as support from RSU data curators in preparing and depositing data and selecting access conditions.
