International Cooperation

From 14 to 16 October, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Vice-Rector for Studies, Prof. Haralds Plaudis, attended the 2026 anniversary conference of the Magna Charta Universitatum, held at Mykolas Romeris University in Vilnius, Lithuania.

The theme of this year's conference was ‘Beyond Resilience: Universities as Active Value-Driven Agents in a Changing World’. The conference focused on the role of universities facing geopolitical uncertainty, technological and societal change, including academic freedom, university autonomy, public trust, democratic participation, sustainability and international cooperation.

The Magna Charta Universitatum initiative dates back to 1988 in Bologna, when university rectors signed a document based on the principles of university autonomy and academic freedom. The conferences bring together representatives of higher education institutions from various countries across the world to discuss the core values of universities and their role in a changing society.
