Dean of the RSU Faculty of Law Participates in Discussion on Internet Governance During Wartime

On 16 June 2022, the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University School of Law, which is based in Taiwan, hosted the second international webinar Internet Governance in a Real war – the Role of ICANN and International community. Representatives from Latvia, Ukraine, and Taiwan participated.

All speakers condemned Russia’s full-scale military invasion of Ukraine and discussed current issues regarding the possibility of partially or completely disconnecting the Russian Federation from the internet and the importance of the internet in times of war.

Prof. Jānis Grasis, the Dean of the RSU Faculty of Law, represented Latvia in the discussion. He examined the global importance of ICANN (The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) in developing and regulating the internet from the perspective of public international law.

The webinar’s moderator was Kuo-Wei Wu, President of the Taiwan Internet Governance Forum. Ukraine was represented by sworn advocate Natalia Hniezdilova and Olga Golovko, who is a researcher at the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.
