Data Stewards Unit

To ensure high-quality and sustainable research data management, Rīga Stradiņš University employs a team of data stewards that help develop research data management at the institution, providing methodological and practical support to researchers at all stages of the research data life cycle.

The data stewards team was established within the project "Support for the implementation of open science in practice, as well as created solutions for science data sharing and participation in the EU open science cloud" ("Data Stewards Project"). During the project, the team members have participated in intensive training and continue to improve their knowledge to provide the most up-to-date support to researchers.

Data stewards services:

Data management plan (DMP) and its preparationData stewards offer consultative support in the preparation of the DMP, considering aspects of short-term and long-term data storage, sharing and protection according to the project funder's instructions.
Data organising, processing and documentationProvide guidance on structuring data according to FAIR principles and support in preparing metadata, as well as assistance in selecting suitable solutions for data processing offered by RSU IT.
Data security and ethicsOffer consultative support on the protection of sensitive data, e.g. personal data, and the tools to ensure it.
Data storage and archivingDistribute information on trusted institutional and international data repositories, as well as make suggestions on the choice of file formats for long-term data storage.
Data publishing and Open DataSupport researchers in assessing the quality of datasets and publishing them, ensuring data accessibility, citation and transparency. Advise on open science and licensing, such as Creative Commons, as well as deposit datasets in RSU Dataverse and index information in ZDIS Pure.
Collaboration with libraries, department of IT, etc.Act as an intermediary, facilitating the exchange of information between researchers and other departments of the institution (Library, Legal Department, IT, etc.), for the successful and efficient implementation of research data management.
Training and seminarsOrganise training and seminars on research data management, promoting and strengthening the knowledge and skills of RSU researchers.
