Researcher (Systems biology)

The Computational Systems Biology team (leader is acting tenured professor Dr.sc.ing. Egils Stalidzans) at RSU Bioinformatics group invites talented and motivated  researcher (master degree or doctoral student) to work in scientific projects at Rīga Stradiņš University, implementing bioinformatics and systems biology approaches in data processing, integration and mechanistic modeling of processes. The topics of the projects are mainly related to medical issues.

Work Location: Riga, Latvia (remote option possible)

Working Time: 12-40 hours per week

Employment contract: Fixed-term employment contract of up to 2 years, which will be extended in case of a positive evaluation

What we expect

• The candidate must have knowledge and skills in one of the fields - biology, medicine, computer science or engineering
• Willingness to work in science and learn new skills in an interdisciplinary team
• Programming skills

We will appreciate

• Computer programming skills (eg Matlab, R and Python/Perl/Julia or Java)
• Data analysis and mathematical modeling skills with programs similar to COPASI, COBRA, CNApy
• Basic knowledge in molecular biology and "omics" technologies is desirable
• Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English

Everyday work

• Implementation of the systems biology approach by creating mathematical models based on the available information, the operation of which is compared with the experimental results
• Personalization of therapies
• Mathematical modeling and optimization of cellular processes
• Participation in scientific discussions of project consortia and RSU Bioinformatics group
• Preparation of scientific publications
