As part of the 84th International Scientific Conference of the University of Latvia, an interdisciplinary session titled 'How to Ensure Sustainability for Society?' will take place on April 14, 2026. The session will focus on issues related to public health, well-being, and social development.

The session is organized with the participation of the national coordination teams of two international research infrastructures implemented in Latvia – ESS and SHARE. The European Social Survey (ESS) is a cross-national comparative study that collects data on the values, attitudes, and social processes of people aged 15 and over across Europe; in Latvia, it is coordinated by the University of Latvia. The Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE), in turn, is a longitudinal international study on ageing, health, socio-economic conditions, and living circumstances among individuals aged 50+, and is coordinated in Latvia by the Institute of Public Health at Rīga Stradiņš University.

The conference will bring together researchers and practitioners to discuss the multidimensional aspects of societal sustainability, including psychological well-being, health status, lifestyle, and social participation, as well as the impact of these factors on quality of life across different population groups. The session programme includes presentations that analyze current issues based on various data sources and propose solutions for sustainable societal development, promoting an interdisciplinary approach and dialogue across sectors.
