Objective

Study k Ursa aims to prepare dental hygienists for professional and responsible activities in the field of children’s oral health by providing a scientifically sound, child rights-based and family-friendly approach.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites for anatomy, histology, dental development, prevention of dental diseases and public health are required.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.As a result of learning the study course, the student acquires knowledge about the growth and development of the child, the formation of milk and permanent teeth, the formation of the bite. Diseases of the oral cavity, their diagnosis, prevention and treatment. Understanding the prevalence and intensity of caries in children. Principles of emergency care for dental injuries.

Skills

1.As a result of the study course acquisition, students will develop the following professional skills:
- to establish positive and reliable contact with the child and his or her legal representatives using age-appropriate communication methods;
- carry out an examination of the oral cavity appropriate to the age of the child, plan individual preventive measures, including analysis of dietary habits;
collect a history, assess the risk of caries and implement appropriate preventive manipulation, and motivate patients to maintain their health;
- diagnose caries in milk and permanent teeth and plan further prevention or treatment measures;
- diagnose and treat gingivitis using clinically sound methods
- recognise mineralisation disorders and develop prevention strategies to mitigate them;
- take action in the event of dental injuries, providing first aid and follow-up care;
- provide appropriate treatment for children with special needs, including children with autism spectrum disorders and cerebral stroke, tailored to suit individual needs and cooperation opportunities.

Competence

1.Students as a result of the study course acquisition;
- be able to identify patients belonging to high-risk groups, taking into account general health status, oral hygiene skills, saliva characteristics, caries intensity, periodont condition, oral mucosa health and occlusion characteristics;
- evaluate individual risk factors and develop a personalised plan for oral health education, prevention and clinical treatment, ensuring its accurate and effective implementation in children and adolescents;
- apply basic principles of pedagogy in the learning process, understand its structure, methods of selecting and transmitting information, as well as promote motivation in health education through appropriate learning techniques;
contribute to changing attitudes and behaviours in the health education process through communication and education strategies based on child development and psychosocial characteristics.
