In the second Research and Innovation Project (PIP) call of the BioPhoT research platform, funding has been awarded to 26 projects, as decided by the Platform’s Project Management Group on 20 February. Among the approved initiatives are two projects led by researchers from Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU).

From 18 to 22 November, Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Data Steward Laura Badūne (pictured) participated in the Data Science Conference Europe in Belgrade, Serbia. The conference brought together industry experts, data scientists, data engineers, and analysts, as well as researchers and academics, business and team leaders, and other representatives who work on a daily basis or are interested in the opportunities provided by artificial intelligence (AI) and its use in data-related industries.
On 27 February, the day before Rare Disease Day, Latvia will host the Rare Disease Forum, which will be the third educational event of its kind with a diverse programme, bringing together healthcare professionals, patient representatives, decision-makers, people with rare diseases, and their loved ones. This year, the forum has become international.
This year's Rare Disease Day in Latvia has turned into Rare Disease Month, featuring both an informative campaign with the slogan "Rare, but many! 100,000 reasons to act!" and a Rare Disease Forum
Recently, RSU Emeritus Professor Romāns Lācis, one of Latvia’s leading cardiac surgeons, celebrated a significant anniversary.
Researchers from Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) have participated in a large-scale international project, within the framework of which the most extensive microclimate data network in the history of sports competitions has been created during the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games. The project was implemented in collaboration with the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), University of Rome Foro Italico, and collaborating centres of the International Federation of Sports Medicine (FIMS).
This year, six teams and nine individual participants from Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) will join the international pre-incubation programme Green Hexagon, marking the largest representation of RSU in the programme to date.
Over the course of four months, they will collaborate with students from partner universities across Europe to develop sustainable business ideas and create solutions that advance healthcare and well-being, environmental responsibility, sustainable consumption, community development, and digital innovation.

From 16 to 20 February, the EUSA Student Powerlifting Cup took place in France, in the Bordeaux suburb of Mérignac. RSU Sports Club was represented by six athletes – three women and three men.

Thanks to the support of the Riga Stradiņš University (RSU) Doctoral School, the world-renowned periodontology expert Prof. Mariano Sanz from the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain) and the University of Oslo (Norway) visited the RSU Institute of Stomatology on 7 November 2025.
