Winners of the RSU public health crisis communication simulation scenario competition announced

The winners of the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) public health crisis communication simulation competition were announced at the RSU International Student Conference (ISC) on 22 March.

The winner of the simulation competition was a team of students composed of Maija Pēce (Medicine), Viktorija Kuņicina (Public Health) and Annija Ermiča (Public Relations). The team received the main prize – a trip to the 17th European Public Health Conference organised by the European Public Health Association in Lisbon (Portugal).

Andrejs Lifšics will defend his doctoral dissertation on 24 April at 14.00 in an open meeting of the RSU Clinical Medicine doctoral committee on Zoom. His dissertation is titled “HPV's Impact on Head and Neck Cancers: Exploring Prevalence and Prognostic Significance”.

Dissertation study on the link between military footwear and lower extremity overuse injuries in soldiers

Professional military service involves high-intensity physical training, including field training exercises and marching, which increase the risk of musculoskeletal injuries. These injuries most commonly affect the knee joints and the lower leg and foot and are a serious problem increasing the financial burden of military healthcare and reducing the readiness of the army. They are also often the cause for premature discharge in NATO armies.

Soldiers wear special lace-up boots or military footwear during their service.

On 2 and 3 April 2024, the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) Rector Prof. Aigars Pētersons, Vice-Rector for Administration and Development Toms Baumanis, Latvian Minister for Health Hosams Abu Meri, Chairman of the Board at Riga East Clinical University Hospital Normunds Staņēvičs, and Board Member Haralds Plaudis will visit the Johns Hopkins Hospital during their visit to the US. The Johns Hopkins Hospital is one of the largest medical institutions in the world and one of the top hospitals in the US, acclaimed for its medical care, research, and innovations. 

RSU History Museum opens new exhibition on the historical turn of our University

An exhibition created by the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) History Museum will be on display in the glass cases by the RSU Great Hall at 16 Dzirciema iela from March 27 to July 19 - HISTORIC TURN; How the First World Congress of Latvian Physicians (1989) influenced the development of RSU.

In the second half of the 1980s, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia were at the beginning of the Singing Revolution – an effort to regain independence from Soviet occupation. In Latvia, it was also called the Third Awakening.

RSU invites seniors to apply for project in third Baltic Age is not an Obstacle series

The third project in the Age is not an Obstacle series, funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers' education and research mobility programme NordPlus, is being implemented by SIA Remilia in cooperation with Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), the Estonian Pensioners’ Union, and the Lithuanian Union of Pensioners Bočiai. The project aims to improve Baltic seniors’ quality of life by upgrading their knowledge and skills.

As part of Latvian Library Week (22-25 April), the RSU Library will host guests from the University of New Mexico, US, with guest lectures by Prof. Melissa L. Rethlefsen, Executive Director of the Health Sciences Library & Informatics Center, and Danielle E. Maurici-Pollock, Research Data Specialist at the Health Sciences Library & Informatics Center.
