RSU Orientation Week for international and exchange students

Last week Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) held an Orientation Week for newly-enrolled international students. Almost 280 international students from 29 countries are joining RSU this semester to study in one of four English language study programmes – Medicine, Dentistry, Public Health and Social Work with Children and Youth.

Innovative BaltCityPrevention project implementation strategies

On 31 January and 1 February, the BaltCityPrevention project seminar and meeting, gathering project partners from Latvia were held at Liepāja City Council and the Liepāja Business Incubator. The project is funded by the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme of the European Union. The BaltCityPrevention project aims to improve the capacity of public health institution employees, develop and implement interventions that are cost-effective and tailored to changes in user health behaviour.

RSU Sports Club in collaboration with International Department invites RSU Freshmen to Winter Sports Day which will be held 23 February at RSU Sports Club, 3 Cigoriņu iela.

Events participants will have the opportunity to compete in two sports activities, Basketball and Volleyball. To take part in these events, please register your team beforehand as the number of teams that can take part is limited.

Malnutrīcija

Obesity is currently a problem worldwide and leads to negative effects on health, yet the opposite problem – which is often overlooked – is malnutrition, which is caused by insufficient food intake or poor dietary choices or illness. This can cause significant changes in body mass and tissue and have an adverse effect on health and recovery from illness. Dietologist Laila Meija, Assoc. Prof.

This February, 150 local and 279 international students representing 20 countries joined the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) student body. In this winter intake the university received a total of 654 applications with “Medicine” as the most popular study programme among international applicants. Local applicants were most interested in the study programme “Law” which was offered both at undergraduate and postgraduate level in this winter intake.

Prof. Andris Sprūds, Dean of the Faculty of European Studies (FES), joined the RSU academic staff from the outset – in 1998. As the professor himself admits, back then right after graduating with a Master's degree, it was a professional challenge that he couldn't allow to pass by. In the 20th anniversary year of social sciences programmes, A. Sprūds shares his time at RSU, his first year as a dean, and the vision for the development of the faculty.

Ieva Lībiete

Ieva Lībiete is a lecturer at the Institute of the History of Medicine (IHM) at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) and is in charge of establishing an ambitious RSU Museum of Anatomy. Among the most successful academic projects she highlights the digitalisation, redefining of the IHM collection of articles Acta medico-historica Rigensia and the collection being made available to the public. This resulted in the aforementioned collection of articles being included in the largest open-access database of academic journals: Directory of Open Access Journals.
