Maksims Čistjakovs

Maksims Čistjakovs, researcher at the RSU Institute of Microbiology and Virology, already started to think of himself as a researcher in Grade 11 at secondary school. Back then, a young biology teacher started working at his school; and he roused interest with his passion and knowledge and, as it turned out later, laid the foundations for Maksims' career. The young researcher was inspired by molecular biology in particular, because it helps in the study of various molecular mechanisms in the human body and even look for new medicines and test them.

RSU Language afternoon

On 28 November, the Language Centre organised Language Afternoon, which has already become a steady tradition. The aim of this event is to promote a willingness to learn new languages and become acquainted with the traditions and culture of other countries.

At Rīga Stradiņš University, many different languages are spoken on a daily basis. While studying and working in a multicultural environment, we can truly appreciate how important foreign language skills are, because, as we all know, language is a bridge to learning other cultures, traditions and values.

RSU hokeja komanda

On Sunday 6 January, the Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) ice hockey team competed with the Oxford Canadiens, with students from Canada, the USA and Great Britain.  The Oxford Canadiens players join once per year to travel across Europe and challenge other university teams.

This year the Oxford Canadiens chose the RSU team as their opponents. Unfortunately, our team lost the intense game with a final score 6:2. Nevertheless, it was a great experience, and, no doubt, a memorable game.

Nowadays, up-to-date digital technologies, dummies and electronic simulations are widely used in human-centred medical education at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU). However, it has not always been that way. Although experiments with animals  are no longer part of the study process, the RSU Museum still retains these decades-old historical testimonies. The majority of them date back to the Soviet period, when moral principles in regard to the use of animals were less stringent.
