Aim

To strengthen RSU academic staffs’ capacity through traineeship in Latvian companies and provide training in the areas, in which additional competences are required, enrich the academic community of RSU by attracting foreign academic staff and doctoral students.

Description

To achieve the project objective, RSU has set up an Action Plan for the Development of Academic Staff, which outlines the current situation and describes the planned project activities, as follows:

  • involvement of doctoral students in academic work,
  • employment of foreign academic staff; 
  • improvement of competences of academic staff through traineeships in local companies; 
  • improvement of competences of academic staff – learning professional English,
  • improvement of competences of academic staff – specialised training – young lecturers’ academy and development of competences for cooperation with industry.

The project will be implemented in two largest RSU study directions “Healthcare” and “Law”.

Involvement of doctoral students in academic work

There will be positions created for doctoral students in those areas, in which RSU is short of staff and no succession is ensured, and also in the areas in which RSU enjoys competitive advantages to strive for excellence.

The attraction of foreign academic staff will focus more on those areas, where internationalisation and the integration of new methods in the study and research process need to be developed.

The selection of companies will be organised according to the criteria developed by RSU, based on the conformity of the company’s operations with RSU strategic specialisation and research programme, innovations introduced in the company’s work, its participation in research processes, etc.

The language classes will cover the following topics:

Efficient presentation and discussions in English;

Professional English and English for research, including academic writing.
