Objective

To provide an opportunity of acquiring the knowledge and skills for morphological and functional analysis of the human body. To use the information on the basic principles of the structure of the human body in order to acquire knowledge and develop understanding of the structure and functional activity of the active and passive locomotor apparatus; the structure and regulatory role of the nervous and endocrine systems; the structure, function and location of internal organs; the structure of the lymphatic system, the cardiovascular system and their role in the body’s metabolism, using traditional anatomical research methods, anatomical terms in Latvian and Latin.

Prerequisites

All biology disciplines of the secondary school programme.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

As a result of completing the study course, the student will be able to name the organ systems of the human body, explain their structure, illustrate the location, evaluate the functions, blood supply and innervation; will know the anatomy terms in Latvian and Latin.

Skills

The student will recognise and be able to show skeletal bones, joints, find and classify muscles, organs and other anatomical structures in the demonstrated natural preparations and other visual aids; will be able to demonstrate, explain movements in all body joints and analyse and justify the activity of the involved muscles, will be able to work with special literature; the student will be able to integrate anatomical knowledge into motor control in physiotherapy.

Competence

By acquiring knowledge of human anatomy, students will be able to understand special subjects in physiotherapy, motor control.
