Objective

Acquire knowledge and skills on the use of physical exercises to strengthen health, increase physical fitness and prevent diseases, prepare to work with clients of different ages and levels of fitness in the field of health sports.

Prerequisites

Students need basic knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, in particular the support-motion system, cardiovascular and respiratory system, as well as basic knowledge of sports physiology and biochemistry, which characterise the body’s reactions and energy supply during exercise. Understanding the role of physical activity in promoting health is desirable.Knowledge of English is required at least at intermediate level in order to be able to read and use the scientific and professional literature of the sector and to acquire terminology.Knowledge:basic knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, in particular the support-motion system, cardiovascular and respiratory system;basic knowledge of sports physiology and biochemistry, which characterises the body’s reaction and energy supply during exercise;understanding the role of physical activity in promoting health.Skills: abilityto use English at least at intermediate level to read and interpret scientific and professional literature;ability to learn and use sports and exercise terminology.Competencies:ability to apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology and sports biochemistry to understand exercise performance and training principles;ability to use English skills in the acquisition of scientific information and in terms of terminology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.Recognises the basic concepts and terms of health sports in Latvian and English, compares the goals and functions of health and competition sports.

Skills

1.Select and apply appropriate exercises and workloads for clients of different ages and preparedness to strengthen health and prevent disease.

Competence

1.Able to develop and justify recommendations for physical activity for the needs of different clients.
