Objective

To prepare laboratory doctors capable of conducting clinical examination of different biomaterials – urine, faeces, cerebrospinal fluid, sputum, wound excrements, cavity punctates, exudate, throat and nasal smears, washing, etc. To apply examination algorithms and to interpret the obtained results. To master internal and external quality control principles of clinical examination methods.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.- to describe principles of operation of urine analysers;
- to evaluate changes in urine examination indicators;
- to characterise bile formation mechanisms;
- to characterise possibilities of differential diagnostics of kidney diseases in a laboratory;
- to characterise an examination algorithm of cerebrospinal fluid and serous cavity fluids, its differential value.

Skills

1.- to conduct a standardised examination of urine sediment;
- to conduct macroscopic and microscopic examination of sputum;
- to conduct quality control tests for clinical examination methods;
- to conduct clinical examination methods of serous cavity fluids;
- to evaluate the possibilities of clinical examination methods.

Competence

1.Examination of a biological material to determine physiological properties and pathological processes in a human body in order to perform differential diagnostics of different diseases using clinical examination methods, and to ensure the quality of examinations.
