Objective

To develop ability to discuss based on arguments the psychological aspects of interrelationships and the importance of successful professional communication during the implementation of the health care process; to promote the development and improvement of communication skills.

Prerequisites

Secondary school knowledge of social sciences.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Describes the types of communication; describes the role of communication in the health care process in the clinical setting; names the aspects of professional communication in the model of communication with the patient in the clinical setting; understands clinical interview and counseling techniques; describes the conflict, its causes and solutions; understands the importance of stress in professional activities.

Skills

Students recognize and describe different emotions; during simulations professionally lead the conversation, collecting the anamnesis and conducting the motivational interview; apply conflict resolution skills in simulated learning situations; identify situations that increase a risk of burnout; evaluate own resources, burnout risks and skills to be improved in professional communication; conflict resolution skills are applied in simulated learning situations.

Competence

Ability to argue and to ground the opinion about various communication situations in clinical setting, as well as about the importance of professional communication during the implementation of the health care process.
Ability to select and to apply appropriate clinical interview techniques and methods, as well as conflict resolution skills.
