Objective

To prepare laboratory doctors capable of conducting laboratory diagnostics of haematological diseases within a medical laboratory. To use modern equipment for laboratory diagnostics of haematological diseases. To master theoretical knowledge and practical skills to orientate oneself in the range of examinations and to select the type of examinations according to the patient’s pathology and physiological properties. To apply examination algorithms and to interpret the results. To master internal and external quality control methods in laboratory diagnostics of haematological diseases.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.- to describe possibilities of using different methods in diagnostics of haematological diseases;
- to evaluate examination results characterising acute leucosis;
- to evaluate examination results characterising chronic leucosis;
- to describe flow cytometry examination principles;
- to describe characteristic properties of the myeloplastic syndrome;
- to evaluate parameters of biochemical and immunochemical examinations indicating of haematological diseases.

Skills

1.- to prepare samples for morphological and sternal punctate microscopic examination of blood cells;
- to perform morphological differentiation of blood cells;
- to evaluate morphological changes in lymphocytes in case of different lymphoproliferative;
- to perform microscopic examination of sternal punctates;
- to evaluate immunohistochemical examinations;
- to interpret results of haematological examinations.

Competence

1.To perform examinations of human biological material for diagnostics of haematological diseases. To use up-to-date technologies and methods, diagnostic criteria and examination algorithms for diagnostics and differential diagnostics of diseases. To interpret results and to recommend further examination activity to clinicians.
