Objective

Student will be able to organise, plan, provide and assess patient care of patients with various surgical and internal diseases, by integrating previously obtained knowledge in surgery and internal diseases while adhering to professional and ethical standards. Student will gain knowledge of principles, objectives, importance and management of the care of internal medicine patients. Will be able to recognise symptoms of illnesses, plan, provide and propose care appropriate for patients with internal diseases. Student will be able to understand diagnostic and therapeutic principles of the disease and patient care.

Prerequisites

Requires preliminary knowledge in anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

As a result of completing the study course students will gain basic knowledge of basic care of surgical disease patients, disease symptoms of internal disease patients, specifics of patient care, importance and management of care.

Skills

As a result of completing the study course students will be able to provide patient care to patients with surgical diseases, prepare patient for various surgical manipulations and investigations. Will be able to recognise the characteristic complaints, identify and formulate care problems of patients with diagnosed internal diseases, as well as plan and implement the care process.

Competence

As a result of completing the study course students will be able to prepare patients for various investigations, justify and explain the necessity of preparation, understand the subjective and objective symptoms and syndromes of organ systems, identify the main clinical symptoms and differentiate according to severity, predict and plan patient care. As a result of completing the study course students will be able to professionally cooperate with patients, comply with norms of medical ethics, and, remaining respectful to patient’s rights, take responsibility for independent learning, and act as a health promoter in the context of choosing methods of specific and non-specific prevention of internal diseases and patient care.
